Impromptunes - The Completely Improvised Musical

IMPROMPTUNES - THE COMPLETELY IMPROVISED MUSICAL Comedy

Bok Choy Ballroom @ Noodle Palace

Improvised Singing? Yes. Improvised Comedy? Yes. FUN? You bet. Following sell-out shows at the 2015 Melbourne Comedy Festival and FRINGE WORLD 2015, Impromptunes is back! Impromptunes is a show unlike any other, combining the mischief of improvisation with the magic of musical theatre in a full-length production. Each night, and based on nothing more than a single audience suggestion, these brilliant performers will produce a 60-minute show full of song, dance, laughter and larger-than-life characters. With no time for discussion between the initial audience suggestion and the first chords of the overture, Impromptunes is dangerous, fast-paced and exciting. Although an undoubted challenge, it’s one that the cast tackles with toe tapping, spirit fingers and plenty of harmonious japery. See what happens when you combine the musical prowess of performers taught at WAAPA and VCA, with the smart wit of improvisers trained at Impro Melbourne and The Big HOO-HAA! It's unrehearsed. It’s hilarious. It’s a whole lot of fun. It’s Impromptunes. Do you hear the people Improvi-sing?

DANNY MCGINLAY LEARNS TO SPEAK UKRAINIAN Comedy

Laksa Lounge @ Noodle Palace

‘One of the best comedians in Australia’ (Gold 104.3), Danny McGinlay has done lots to impress girls in the past, and he’s ready to share the story of his biggest relationship challenge yet as he demonstrates exactly how far he was willing to go for a chick in Kiev. In 2012 Danny was preparing to marry his Ukrainian girlfriend. To prove his worthiness to her and her family, he enrolled in night school, and had six months to learn a completely new 33-letter alphabet, master the concept of hard and soft vowels and adapt to a language made up of sounds most people can’t hear. As seen on Rove, The Project, The Footy Show, Adam Hills Tonight and the best comedy venues in Australia, McGinlay’s fresh, honest humour has audiences in fits of laughter as they relate not so much to his own ludicrous experiences, but to his knack for finding himself in ridiculous situations. Did he succeed in wrapping his tongue around a completely new language, and winning the hearts of his new family?

Bastard Theatre's Martin Sims Award nominated show returns for a season as hectic as the first half of this sentence! A divisive and lauded comedic musical about finding love and loving friends, 'Fish in the Sea' is a snappy farce that is funny, frantic and full on. Humphrey, lovesick and depressed years after the end of his first long-term romance, meets Susanna, who inspires him to take another chance on love. But Susanna has a boyfriend… And Humphrey’s best friend decides now is the time to announce her feelings for him. 'Fish in the Sea', directed by Damon Lockwood and featuring a live band, was (and still is) the premiere work of Bastard Theatre Company. There aren't "plenty more" shows like this. Plan C

PLAN C Comedy

Ramen Room @ Noodle Palace

'Le spectacle, c'est moi !' Caspar, a Parisian Dane, presents himself in a one-man variety show containing a considerable dose of clown and mime. Plan A is what he hopes is going to work, his dreams come true; Plan B is what he knows is going to work, business as usual. Plan C is when he has to improvise... The show quickly becomes a visual and visceral experience as Caspar confronts himself in a host of guises: from writer, director and actor to all types of characters, demons and more or less improbable figments of his imagination. Conceived and performed on the side of Montmartre, 'Plan C' remains true to the artistic spirit of its origin and offers a highly creative performance with a poetic and philosophical twist. 'Plan C' is an existential comedy that will speak to anyone who ever had a choice to make or a plan to follow. Strung between freedom and necessity, each performance is unique in its more or less scripted improvisations. Created and performed by Caspar Schjelbred.

EMILY TRESIDDER: CRAZY IS. Comedy

Pho Barn @ Noodle Palace

What really makes us human? Sure, we have opposable thumbs, but, as Emily Tresidder points out (strangely, using her thumbs), it’s most likely because we can define so much as crazy, and indeed can be whatever crazy is. Even with those thumbs, do we actually know what the term really means? Emily Tresidder’s new stand up show explores crazy. Sydney based comedian, Emily has toured her smash hit show “Absolutely Ridiculous” around Australia over the last year. Rip it Up gave her 4 stars at Adelaide Fringe and The West Australian described her act as having “incredible confidence, ferocity and a wicked sense of humor”. A regular at Sydney’s most recognised comedy rooms, Emily’s deep understanding of how hilariously crazy life is every day will captivate you, or, at the very least, make you wish you’d peed before the show. Emily's new show explores the Zen of crazy and the myriad of things that have come to be defined as crazy. Whatever your perspective is on the word - there's something here that will have you laughing - and not always just self-consciously.

Bok Choy Ballroom @ Noodle Palace

★★★★★ “An hour with Ms Cosgriff is not one you’re likely to want back.” – The West Australian After two sold-out seasons at FRINGE WORLD Festival, Gillian Cosgriff returns to Perth to perform the Australian premiere of her brand new show! Gillian has concerns about the future. You might say she has chronophobia (fear of the future), or gamophobia (fear of marriage), or phobophobia (fear of fears). Probably not that last one. She is collecting fears like moths in jars. Which she also has a fear of. Mottephobia. And space. After venturing out to see Gravity with a throbbing hangover she also has astrophobia. Seriously, name me one space movie where nobody dies. You can’t, can you? I knew it. It’s just that when Gill thinks about the future, instead of seeing dazzling new horizons and exciting possibilities, all she can think about is the impending doom of the probable apocalypse. Did you know that scientists believe the 21st century will achieve 1000 times the progress of the 20th century? OH GOD. This award-winning cabaret star has been garnering accolades for the last five years with her unique brand of musical comedy. See her now, before the world inevitably ends...

In 2015 he supported Sami Shah (Pakistan), Joe Mande (USA) & Esther Povitsky (USA) and is best known as the creator and regular host of Infinite Jest. Chris Lynam is renowned for many things, but bringing his brand of crazed humour to unsuspecting audiences is his speciality. His comedy is both dangerous and exciting- stretching variety to its very limits. Mr Lynam’s new show; a reflection of unnecessarily large and vivid imagination, asks all the important questions including What if that piece of toast you had for breakfast is really a piece of beach in the Caribbean? and What if your wife is a fruitcake and your children are raspberries? In amongst all this confusion it becomes apparent that something very important is missing from the backbone of existence…and in order to restore world peace (of cake) Professor Shputdonk must find what’s missing…

SOUND & FURY'S "LORD OF THE THRONES" Theatre

Soba Stadium @ Noodle Palace

THE NIGHT IS DARK AND FULL OF ERRORS Sound & Fury brings its signature-style of ribald silliness to a brand-new work, with a brand-new experiment in audience participation. For the first time in an S&F play, an audience member will play the hero of the story each night. To be chosen right before the show, the lucky (?) fan will be costumed and briefed on their pivotal place in the hour-long performance. What could go wrong/right? It’s not as terrifying as it may sound – all their dialogue will be broadcast from a speaker – they just need to mouth the words, and move around on the stage. For an hour. In almost every scene. YOU KNOW NOTHING, TOM BOMBADIL! In a (clever) obvious grab for what’s big in pop-culture, Sound & Fury is mashing-together two mildly publicised dramatical works, The Lord of the Rings and something called Game of Thrones, into a one-hour comic parody play. And for those who “know nothing” about either work, it’s okay. You don’t need to know your Gollum from your Hodor: The plot of Sound & Fury’s ‘Lord of the Thrones’ is original.

So what does an ex-Muslim with an understanding of the religion do to explain his point of view? Especially when everyone else keep screaming words like ""Islamophobia"" and ""Islamofascist"" every time he opens his mouth. And sometimes when he doesn't. Well, if you're Sami, then you do a show about Islam and how people misunderstand it, both from inside and outside the religion. Scarlett shares her true story of a promiscuous girl’s search for love. Honest and brave you don't often hear women talk about sex so openly and graphically yet linked together so gracefully and with such humour. This show was created around the questions of ‘Do we over sexualise love and de-eroticise sex?’ Using her musical theatre training and years of cabaret experience she has created this well written and crafted theatrical cabaret one hour piece. Although her underlying themes are serious and make you question our society today you can expect some great songs, laughs, enticing storytelling, erotica and some scantily-clad Scarlett scandal! Scarlett is a London based internationally recognised singer, burlesque superstar and sex pot originally from the beautiful city of Edinburgh. After performing at Edfringe, Adelaide Fringe and Fringe World for the past 2 years with ‘Blues and Burlesque’, Scarlett has decided it’s time for her to go solo and is thrilled to be self producing this show in its Australian Premier.

When Max refuses sauce at a sausage sizzle all hell breaks loose and the world is pushed to the brink of WW3. As his conniving principal, Vladimir Putin and the forces of evil conspire against him, Max must make a final stand. This show is dedicated to all the brave souls out there who don’t like tomato sauce.

Thin, White and Erudite.

THIN, WHITE AND ERUDITE. Comedy

Hokkien House @ Noodle Palace

Pat and Nick are two of Adelaide's best up and coming comedians; already having performed a sold out season of Thin, White & Erudite at the 2015 Adelaide Fringe. They also performed in Adelaide Comedy's 2015 Next Generation showcase and both performed in the 2015 SA Raw state final. They also look pretty much the same, so it's almost a solo show...but with two people. Nick O’Connell started stand up in 2012, since then, he has become one of Adelaide’s best up and comers and a favourite regular on the Adelaide comedy scene. O’Connell’s self observational, self deprecating material has won him equal amounts of acclaim and pity. Pat McCaffrie started comedy at the end of 2012 and has rapidly become a firm favourite at Adelaide comedy events, combining a quick wit with clever political material that's sure to get your vote.
